1811-1850 RARE BOOK COLLECTION AMERICAN HISTORY REVOLUTIONARY WAR BLACK HAWK

Description

Up for auction is a rare group of antique books (13 in total ) focusing on American history.  Before I get into the auction details I need to mention the condition for all volumes is poor in my opinion. Although I am fairly conservative when judging condition and it can be subjective. In addition all books are sold “ as is”.  I will mention major defects but the description will be rather cut and dry.
I'm not  mentioning every single defect other than the oblivious.That being said there are some hard to find titles in this group. If you are looking for early American history books for reference material this is a great collection to get you started.

Sketches of the Life Writings, and Opinions of Thomas Jefferson: With a Selection of the Most Valuable Private Correspondence
: By B.L. Rayner.. New York: Published by A. Francis and W. Boardman. 1832. Condition : Bound In full leather very early ( 1800s) ex-library ticket Philologian Library Society Tusculum Tennessee. Boards still attached, front board split along spinet holding moderate foxing 556pp. Appears complete with preface engraving.
A Journal of A Young Man of Massachusetts, Late a Surgeon on board American Privateer,  Held at Dartmoor Prison : Prisoner of War of the British :
This vol possibly published 1816 but missing full title page and publishing info. Condition : Bound in leather boards still attached title page torn missing lower portion several 20th century inscriptions inside front cover board. 240pp.

By David Ramsay, M.D. 3rd Ed, with six engravings Baltimore: Published by Joseph Cushing J. Robinson Printer 1814. Condition: Bound in leather:  Front cover detached, missing rear cover board. Internally heavily stained 266 pp.
The American Militia Officer’s Manual Containing a System of Instruction for Infantry Field & Horse Artillery Cavalry & Rifleman:

New York Published by N.B. Holmes: No 262 Greenwich street. 1824 S. Marks Printer.  Condition : Bound in full leather Cover boards attached but weak hinges title foldout and end papers stained. Foldout torn, missing piece (see photo) internally Lt. staining. 216pp.
A Gazetteer of the United States
By J.E. Worcester , A.M. Andover printed for the Author by Flagg and Gould 1818. Condition : Bound in full leather front cover board detached spine shows significant wear. Old 19th century bookplate of J.C. Crane Genealogist West Millbury, Mass. Internally titles and preface heavily stained light foxing thought out. unpaginated appears to be complete.
Mcfingal a modern epic poem. Or, The town-meeting.
Missing title page but most likely a 1815-1816 printing. This vol only had the Preface More info from the web about this title :” Mcfingal is a mock epic poem written by American poet John Trumbull.This canto, about 1500 lines, contains some verses from
Thomas Gage's Proclamation, published in the Connecticut Courant for the 7th and the 14th of August 1775; it portrays a Scottish Loyalist, McFingal, and his Whig opponent, Honorius, evidently a portrait of John Adams.
This first canto was divided into two, and with a third and a fourth canto was published in 1782. “ Condition : small vol bound in leather boards still attached heavy scratching to leather, missing publishing info title page end papers etc. Internally shows heavy staining, foxing though out.

By David Ramsay , M.D. 2nd Ed, Boston Published By D.  Mallory and Co. 1811. Condition : Bound in leather with a 19th century folk art home spun cover made plaid cloth. Internally the book is also sewn together with blue thread front cover board is holding by this thread. Heavily stained in very poor condition. 371 pp.
History of the War ( 1812)
No title page it was torn out, or damaged at some point. The book focuses on the War of 1812 and was presumably published shortly after the war perhaps 1816 or 1817. Condition : Bound in full leather both boards attached Shows a contemporary signature of Cyrus Stevens Hyde also his stamp or bookplate. The frontispiece engraving of the Battle of New Orleans is still present in poor condition pages heavily foxed 336pp.
Abstract of Infantry Tactics most likely another copy of: The American Militia Officer’s Manual Containing a System of Instruction for Infantry Field & Horse Artillery Cavalry & Rifleman:

Lives of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence  By Benson J. Lossing.
Missing title page the year printed is possibly in the 1830’s. Condition is very poor although still bound the book is missing titles, end papers, preface ect. Many pages torn rear board hanging on by string leather dry cracked hinges 456pp.
Anecdotes of The American Indians Illustrating their Eccentricities of Character
. Hartford : Published by C.M. Welles 1850. Condition : Bound in faded brown cloth internally foxing some scribbles on a blank end paper illustrated with small woodcuts. Small vol  252pp.
