Description
TransparencyUltem resin widely carried in numerous transparent and opaque colors and special effects. Ultem
®
is also available in glass-filled grades with enhanced strength and stiffness.
Heat & Radiation Resistance
Due to its amorphousness, Ultem
®
has no true melting point. Ultem
®
offers excellent stability of physical and mechanical properties at elevated temperatures due to a high glass transition temperature of 217°C. It comes available with relative thermal indices (RTI) that reach up to 180°C. Ultem
®
also offers inherent flame resistance without additives in most grades.
Strength & Stiffness
With average stiffness and strength up to 200°C, outstanding strength and thermoplasticity make it one of the best polysulfone alternatives on the market today. Ultem
®
is often used in place of polysulfone in applications where superior strength, stiffness and temperature resistance are required. Unfilled, transparent grades are equal in strength to other thermoplastics with pacifying fillers.
Environmental Stress & Crack Resistance
Compared to many other amorphous thermoplastics, Ultem
®
products retain strength and resist stress cracking when exposed to automotive and aircraft fluids, aliphatic carbonate, alcohols, acids and weak aqueous solutions. Its environmental stress and crack resistance make it an excellent plastic for any outdoor condition.
